I was digging around for some cards for another post yesterday when I ran across this classic, all-limbs Mickey Morandini rookie card (1991 Score #376):
I’ve always loved that card for the amazing pic of Mr. Unassisted Triple Play. But it also always reminds me of high-kick pitchers, like Juan Marichal and Bronson Arroyo.
So I went on a hunt for some cards of those Rockette hurlers, but I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for. I did find this gem, though:
That’s the 1989 Upper Deck Kent Tekulve (#207) masterpiece. Like Morandini above, Tekulve is abusing his body just to give us a gnarly-cool baseball card.
They must have been warming up Veterans Stadium for that gritty, wild 1993 team, huh?
Anyway, I hope your weekend is at least fun as these two now-old baseball cards.
I watched the birth of Mr. Unassisted Triple Play live (on tv) against my Mets. The play ended the game and was another footnote in the typical Met season. Thank you for these daily trips down memory lane. I Love what you do and appreciate you!!!!
As a Braves fan I never liked Morandini, but he often had cool baseball cards. He was like Shawon Dunston in that regard.
