Donnie Moore Came Out of the Blue (Sky)
Day 1 of the 2025 Spring Training Challenge -- Blue Sky
1979 Topps Donnie Moore (#17) - Card of the Day
Welcome to Day 1 of the 2025 Spring Training Baseball Card Challenge, wherein we revel in the glories of a card that shows blue sky.
As (soft-)promised in the intro post to this series, I’ll keep the narrative light today since it’s a Sunday and since we’re just getting warmed up.
Suffice it to say that 1979 Topps features some of the sunniest, blue-sky-filled-est baseball cards this side of heaven. The Donnie Moore beauty above is one of the best, and one of my favorites.
But there are any number of others to choose from, and I’ll leave you with an alternate pick that’s almost all blue sky — a glowing Ray Burris (#98):

I'm setting a bad precedent for the first one, but I'm going sky blue instead of blue sky. When I closed my eyes, I saw the 1987 Fleer Bo Jackson that I traded for 45 bucks of store credit.
What popped in my head was the 1989 Fleer Randy Johnson error card, but that doesn't have any sky to speak of showing, and then I realized I must've merged that with his 1989 Topps card (Expos edition), which is an all blue background... so I'm going with that 1989 Topps Randy Johnson.
