He is why Yaz did not get the unanimous MVP in the American League in 1967 despite capturing the Triple Crown. Ironically it was Orlando Cepeda in the National League who was unanimous MVP that year.
Didn't realize that about Tovar -- that was a silly first-place vote. Not sure Cepeda was that far (or any) ahead of Santo, Clemente, and Aaron to warrant unanimity. Thanks for the info!
