I'm going to go with the first Donruss set that I loved more than any other set. Back in my deep collecting days, each year I would select which set I'd focus on. My default setting was Topps from 1986-1989, but in 1990, for the first time, I ended up buying more Donruss. But I didn't love the Reddies, I just didn't like Topps or Fleer as much. I believe I ended up with more Donruss in '92 as well, but I still liked the Topps design more.
It was in 1994 that Topps was my least favorite design. I liked Fleer, but 1994 Donruss was bright, sleek, colorful and (at the time) the borderless photos made me crown it the top set. The first card is a nice Nolan Ryan tribute card: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/51EAAOSwny9c7n-8/s-l1200.jpg

Yes, that’s a great-looking Ryan pic. I don’t think I have a single 1994 Donruss card — I was entering my first Hobby Dark Ages about that time.
