Is that Don Mattingly...or Moose Skowron?
Day 8 of the 2025 Spring Training Challenge -- A Brand New Card
2024 Topps Archives Don Mattingly (#17) - Card of the Day
Welcome to Day 8 of the 2025 Spring Training Baseball Card Challenge, wherein we bask in the spotlight of a brand new card. Truth be told, anything issued after about 1994 still feels brand new to me, but I’ve tried to take my assignment a bit more seriously with thishere 1961-style Donnie Baseball baseball card.
Since it’s Sunday and since you might already be on the hook for reading the full weekly Wax Pack Gods newsletter post — and because I’d take it easy on your eyes on the weekend during this challenge — I’ll stop right here and let you ogle the pinstripes.
Your Turn!
What’s your “brand new” baseball card? Show and/or tell in the comments (or somewhere else) to let our little corner of the world know about it!

I remember when I saw the 1990 Donruss Best of the League set. Those babyblue borders instead of the red borders looked so new and exciting. I was no fan of any of the designs in 1990, but Donruss was the best in my opinion, so it was fun to discover several years later these variants.
For the challenge I selected a new to me Mike LaValliere card bc I still think of him fondly for his involvement in the play at the plate involving Sid "The Slide" Bream: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/6IAAAOSw1LxmBDR~/s-l1200.jpg
